These brown leather jacket men were kicking around on their motorbikes for a good few years before their popularity exploded with Mosley Shoals, a 1996 album that fitted in perfectly with the Noel Gallagher-led Dadrock fad of the time.
Ocean Colour Scene really sailed into the mainstream with Riverboat Song, the electric groove that will forever be remembered as the jammin' theme tune to Chris Evans' TV show, TFI Friday. A live version is included here as a B-side.
But it's just about the best thing on offer on this disc, as Golden Gate Bridge sees the boys retreading already well-worn territory, and sounding more like Paul Weller than the man himself. The other flipside, Get Away, is seven-and-a-half painstaking minutes of modish miserabilism that reminds you as you leap out of your chair to turn it off that it's the end of 2003, not the mid-1990s. Which just about says it all, really.
