Onionz - The Swing EP (Carioca Records)
release date: 23 February 2004

Onionz - The Swing EP
Jus' to make sure, I consulted the Oxford Paperback Dictionary (that's the 2000 print), but the short 'n' sweet definition of 'EP' is credited merely as an 'extended-play (record)'. Well, what my mama says is that an EP is traditionally composed of four tracks, or maybe three very long ones. Or she would have done if I'd asked her.

No matter. What Onionz' Mama is clearly saying is that tribal grooves, Afro-beat chanting and James Brown - style vocals carry enough funk kicks to get any party started right. As respected drummer and DJ Onionz was rocking out choons in Nu-York at the tender age of 12, this should come as no surprise. Do What You Feel Is Real keeps this set percolating with the assistance of cowbells and some wobbly P-Funk b-lines.

Proof positive, if any was needed, that nobody makes House as fluid as the nation that gave it life. Good time US dance music at its best. And there ain't nothing wrong with that.
