Brooding rock never really makes for obvious singles. Most artists of that particular ilk rightly rely on the album format to fully showcase their landscapes of obsessions and simmering tensions. The strangely named Ooom certainly fit that particular bill.
This is spooky, sexy, dark stuff with cute, quivering, almost Lolita-esque vocals. Comparisons are fairly easy to make but to say this owes a lot to P J Harvey is a deserved compliment. There's also a slight Goth edge lent to proceedings without making things too scary.
The album's out soon so all bodes well. Ooom deserve a longer listen than just one track. As far as dipping your toe in their waters goes this release will make you curious enough to take the plunge and have a good, long swim when the LP arrives. Reliable Friend is one of those Trojan horses which might go unnoticed whilst the army prepares for battle within.
