Foraging in the middle ground between Ima Robot’s Alex Ebert, and The Corrections’ Joe Winter, the vocals of Johnny Lloyd find impassioned melodies that weave through the ambitious aesthetic of Operahouse which is as powerful as it is pensive.
With a penchant for an anthemic chorus, and verses that explore widescreen vistas, Change In Nature EP is a promising offering. The title track is instantly attractive, while the sophisticated Britpop posturing of Red Hats For The Masses delves into the box of secrets that Suede were sure they left locked.
While Change In Nature is occasionally laborious, and slightly lacking structurally, there’s enough on offer here to excite, not least the gloriously pained, melodically inventive vocals of Lloyd.
