A smash 'n' grab raid on 1979-era punk and Brighton/London-based The Others dash away with lootings from The Stranglers, The Clash and Sham 69. There is truly nothing on this single but ramshackle revivalist rehash.
This Is For The Poor is a repetitive, stripped-down song that features a hurried bassline reminiscent of Run With Me by The Doors with tight 'n' tinny guitar strums and thudding drums. Vocalist Dominic Masters evidently takes pride in being unable to sing. His tone-deaf London accent is laughably venomous. He throws a punk tantrum and spits, "This is for the poor and not you rich kids!" Oh grow up.
Second track How I Nearly Lost You makes you wish they had lost you, for all its boringly scruffy and disenfranchised tone. Third track Almanac again features anti-melodic rantings with fuzzy guitar riffs that just can't be bothered to sound different from their peers. Lads, people had been there and got the T-shirt 25 years ago. The Others? More like The Same.
