What is your favourite PJ Harvey period? Mine has to be the ultra-seductive, sophisticated indie-rock posturing of Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.
There's been many stylistic diversions on Polly Jean's path over her sixteen years of flirting with rock imagery like some demonic princess, but she continues to render some of the most slinky and sensual sounds you'll hear.
When Under Ether is a strange comeback single for sure, a downplayed, dreamy two and a half minute piano ballad to scare the life out of daytime radio, but it's soaked to the skin with the quintessential Harvey pathos, and poetry that drips like the summer rain. Polly still has a pristine allure that the wannabe generation would give their left arms for. .
