There's an inner contentment running through the music of Padma.
The singer-songwriter had a near-death experience in 2005, and talks on his website ofthe galvanizing effect it had on his life and, more specifically, his music.
The result is that he needs little more than a voice and guitar to express himself, with a few far-off electronic squiggles and atmospherics helping add depth to the sound picture. This might all be a little lacking were it not for the inventive lyrics he spins, and yes - he really does sing about space food, and how "you gave me breakfast, it came from Cape Canaveral, it was dehydrated ice cream, dehydrated strawberries".
Such oddities could be lifted from the pages of a Douglas Coupland novel, and they transfer well to music - particularly when it has such unforced delivery.
