Bright and inoffensive, this Glaswegian four piece have a summery, upbeat
sound. Already Waiting is the first single to be released from an album due
early next year and it's awash with perky harmonies and jangly guitars.
It begins promisingly enough, with vocalist Marco Rea sounding a wee bit like
the Manics' James Dean Bradfield as he sings over the opening chords but, as
the harmony-fuelled chorus kicks in, it quickly retreats to more predictable
territory. There's nothing wrong with pop music covering familiar ground but
this song lacks the necessary spark to make it memorable. All the elements are
in place for a classic pop track - there's a guitar driven interlude, a floaty
vocal segment - but it just ends up feeling rather episodic and bitty.
This is the second Scots band in under a month to draw on the spangly sound
of Buffalo Springfield as an influence (check out the The Hazey Janes' recent release for further evidence of this trend). What's with the
incessant cheeriness? Is it something to do with the weather? The long
nights?
