Fall Out Boy have now straddled the world and made Emo friendly to everyone, including your dad. Right now he's probably scribbling away in his journal about how that woman downstairs breaks his heart on a regular basis, and how his kids don't understand him. Thanks to Fall Out Boy and their Decaydance label, Panic! At The Disco are also bringing conveyor-belt Emo to the masses. Great, thanks so much. Still at least your dad should be able to work out that this lot suck.
Big stupid song titles are par for the course with Panic! At The Disco, as their album is full of them. This single is no exception, and coupled with a bunch of self pitying lyrics and an admittedly fairly catchy chorus, Lying... does pretty much everything you would expect it to. It heralds the end of emotion in a genre that names itself after emotion. Didn't see that coming, did you? There were some great Emo bands around, and now, after boiling it down to little more than pale flesh and pointy cheekbones, we're left with something that sounds like an underprivileged imitation.
This song is all about poor old Panic! being cheated on. Perhaps they should liven up a bit, stop moping about, write decent tunes and stop trying to be so clever; then they might be able to hang on to a girl. Burning is the most fun you can have with a Panic! At The Disco CD.
