The third single from the singer/songwriter's debut album These Streets may or may not light your fire, but it will delight your mum and little sister. Indeed, with Christmas just around the corner, Paolo Nutini could take on ‘our Cliff' and his Christmas campaign for the Number One spot.
The guitar leading us into this track is reminiscent of early Oasis, and brings us into a beautifully told story of those regretful times that you wish could be removed and return you and your lover to a time when everything was right and beautiful. It's not a revolutionary subject, butone that Nutini has made a soulful connection with. Although he's only 19, Nutiini has an extraordinary voice - a cross between Kelly Jones and David Gray, albeit younger and fresher than both of them. That voice smoulders over the lyrics as if he doesn't want them to leave his lips. No surprises are pulled here: it's simply a very pretty song, warming your soul on a cold winter's evening.
He is fast becoming an Anglo-Celtic staple following appearances on Later With Jools Holland - if you haven't heard of him yet, then it won't be long until he's warming your cockles.
