Back in the day, people became famous for something they did, for their talent, for their charisma. Paris Hilton, heiress to the hotel chain and tabloid fodder par excellence, has registered on the celebrity radar as one of those mildly irritating people famous only for, well, being famous.

Perhaps recognising that she'd like to be remembered for more than being rich, blonde, well connected and the staple diet of Heat magazine, Paris here embarks on a pop career. Stars Are Blind, her debut single lifted from the forthcoming eponymous album, liberally snaffles UB40's Kingston Town and slaps some heavily treated vocals over it. The result is... actually not as bad as you'd think. If I'm totally honest, it's languidly catchy, despite its palpably contrived nature.

The album apparently features a cover of Blondie's much abused Heart Of Glass. Odd then that this knowledge no longer fills me with dread, but curiosity. Such tunes as these surely benefit from the glamour Paris's image can bring them, and there are worse singers out there to boot.
