Patricia Vonne is the sister of film director Robert Rodriguez, and was last seen as Dallas in his brilliant version of Sin City. She can also sing a bit too, if Joe's Gone Ridin' is anything to go by.
As you'd expect from a member of the Rodriguez family, this is dusty roots music, and whips along like the bastard lovechild of Sheryl Crow and PJ Harvey. And no matter how unpleasant that sounds, don't be put off - it's a cracking country rock song, being catchy, atmospheric and every so slightly sinister without straying from the mainstream.
The back up tracks are just as good, Can You Hear Me recalling Maria McKee and the Spanish sung Bandolera successfully conjuring up images of the dusty, sun-drenched streets of Mexico. Recommended for those in need of some quality alt-country, and proof that some actresses can actually sing.
