Insane screaming, weird stereo, New Romantic shirts, violins and accordions. That's what you want from a single.
In fact, the latest offering from endearingly bonkers Patrick Wolf (played with Minty before he was even legal; lived in a haunted house in Richmond) is a full-on psychedelic head assault in which electronic noises caress you from every direction, like David Bowie in a particularly pleasant acid trip flashback with added synths and bloops. It's a mix of styles that should keep the new rave aficionados happy as well as the twisted indie kids.
All this from a boyman who dresses like a Pre-Raphaelite waif and does very attractive things with a violin. He's helped out here by Edward Larrikin from Larrikin Love, but it's not like he needs it. Commercial it probably won't be but it's all the better for that. "Whoop-hoo!" will become the winter rallying cry of fey indie Bohos the length and breadth of the country if there's any justice.
I'd like to have some of what he's on, but until then, this and the forthcoming album The Magic Position will do very nicely instead.
