Paul Simon and 'outrageous' - did you ever think you'd hear those words in the same sentence? Fortunately the adjective has nothing to do with a 'Parental Advisory Explicit Lyrics' sticker and is simply the title of the pop king's third single off his Gold-certified album Surprise.
With Simon, you always know what to expect: good solid song writing and experimentation. Outrageous doesn't fail in either category, especially since Simon's partner-in-crime is producer extraordinaire Brian Eno who adds ambience to the upbeat, catchy song's socially aware lyrics (for example, "It's outrageous to line your pockets off the misery of the poor"), funky verse and smooth chorus.
Considering some modern pop acts look to singer/songwriters of yesteryear for inspiration, whilst many of Simon's peers are performing songs they penned in the '60s, it's great Paul Simon is still pushing the boundaries of pop music.
