We love Paw Paw, and that's before we've even heard the single. Their press release has got some ridiculously cute stickers of little cats all over it. Back in the days when cutesy indie bands crammed their demo envelopes with glitter, this kind of thing used to be annoying; now it's endearing that people bother to put the effort in.
So they've already won us over with some cheap stickers, but does Wired OK really stand up to close scrutiny? Well that depends if you like your pop music with a massive dollop of the '80s on top.
Having recently helped out the likes of Emma Bunton and Boy George, Paw Paw have a pedigree in pop music already. The trio of Eve, Zoë and James gently swooning to a synth driven backing track is so retrospective you half expect to look out of the window and see the streets full of Austin Maestros being driven by people with vast shoulder pads.
They've been described as sleazy (by OK! Mag no less) but apart from a slightly grubby bass line everything on Wired OK is pristine. Electro drum patterns and retro synths point to influences such as The Human League, but the thing that makes this single a sure fire winner is the ridiculously catchy harmonies that pour out over the chorus. If everything they do sounds like this Paw Paw will be big news before too long.
