Eddie Vedder sounds like Nick Cave. And it's hard not to be
taken by his crystal crisp vocals on I Am Mine, the first single from
Pearl Jam's upcoming album, Riot Act. The result is ambitious,
not in a grand, visionary way, but because it's so, well, plain rock 'n' roll
simply revisited.
I Am Mine (no relation to the late George Harrison's I Me
Mine) boasts an impeccable, fresh melody full of folksy, rocksy elements,
all bound together by a strong arrangement.
It flows smoothly till the end.
Just listen to guitarist Mike McCready's solo concluding the song.
Some might say this is Pearl Jam going back to their roots (before their "Boring
Period") when the making of one of rock's most revered bands was in the
works. If this is a realistic preview of the new album, then it might just be their
best set of material yet.
