The Pirates feat Enya, Shola Ama & Naila Boss - You Should Really Know (Relentless)
UK release date: 30 August 2004
A brief look at 'reply' songs throws up Superstar by Lydia Murdock ("I'm Billie Jean and I'm mad as hell"), Gordon's Not a Moron by Julie and Gordon (a riposte to Jilted John's Gordon Is A Moron) and, more recently, the well-documented reply to Eamon's F*** It (I Don't Want You Back) by Frankee with FU Right Back.
So, You Should Really Know by The Pirates, a reply to I Don't Wanna Know by Mario Winans, is not in the best of company. Reply songs are either cheesy as hell or a big marketing scam, as the last example was strongly reputed to be.
A collaboration between Enya, Shola Ama and Naila Boss, the song has exactly the same melody and production as the original, which incidentally Enya also featured on. Ama sounds superb with her soulful voice and you can't fault Naila Boss's rapping, but apart from all that: what is the point?
