Let's be honest - you'd recognise Brian Molko's voice anywhere. Vocals so distinctive often date quickly, but it would appear that Placebo are as popular now as they've ever been. Cue English Summer Rain, the fourth single from Sleeping With Ghosts and a timely plug for their forthcoming DVD, Soulmates Never Die.

The striking thing about this single is its clubby feel. It is, in fact, perhaps the closest Placebo will ever get to being a retro-electronic outfit, and a million miles from tracks like Taste In Men. This isn't necessarily bad - it's a filthy floorfiller, with repeated lyrics and some admirably complex production.

English Summer Rain will surely be too close to Pet Shop Boys for some, but it remains a testament to the talent and versatility of Molko. Well worth checking out.
