There I was, all prepared to discuss the mystery of how Brian Molko et al. have managed to become as big as they are, when all I have ever heard them peddling is a minor variation on a single, faux-goth pop theme.

Except, The Bitter End is really quite good. Spunky guitars, purposeful drums and clever keyboard touches combine to add extra atmosphere to an already well-penned tune. Heck, even Mr Molko's overly nasal vocals seem made for the occasion.

Let's hope that the new album maintains the quality control.
