"Once, when I was a boy, a girl came to me and said..." So begins the story on The Boy, the new song from London quartet Plastic Heroes, telling of an obsession formed after a day with said female.
The monotoned guitars are high in the mix, and the song has a certain grandeur that reminds me of those Britpop rockers Rialto. The melody's a catchy one, but ultimately there's not quite enough going on to make this an enduring record. Singer Marc Olivier has a touch of Lou Reed in his voice, and there's some interesting texture in the central bridge passage that bode well for future releases.
These textures also surface in the B-side, where the Plastic Heroes rock out and lose their inhibitions more.
