With The Polyphonic Spree having remixed Death In Vegas‘ Scorpio Rising last year, Mr Fearless and co now return the favour.

The new Soldier Girl is a far darker proposition than her original incarnation. The instrumentation has been stripped back so that the guitars are to the fore, and the strong chorus has been made even more of a focal point. However, surrounding it is a brooding, eerie bassline and melody that nicely counterpoints the over-exuberance that The Polyphonic Spree have a habit of displaying.

One might have expected Death In Vegas to have turned Soldier Girl into an altogether dancier proposition. Ironically, however, they have transformed it from a happy clappy pop tune into a meatier, near gothic number that should be a hit on indie club dance floors everywhere.
