Having been knocking around on the usual networking sites and MP3 blogs for an age now, Montreal all-girl quartet Pony Up finally emerge with their debut UK release.
The Truth About Cats And Dogs... is a gorgeous pop song, filled with punchy rhythms and an irresistible chorus that is as heartbreaking at it is catchy. The melodic piano and guitar combination rings home reminders of the short lived The Organ and Kill Rock Stars darlings Slumber Party, while the vocals are as sweet as that of those of depressingly-young girl duo Smoosh.
The only negative thing that can be said, is the decision to only release the single on the 7" format, limiting its exposure to more casual listeners. But when a debut release can be this promising, their forthcoming album Make Love To The Judges With Your Eyes (they're evidently inspiring when it comes to titles are they not?) should be greeted with high praise indeed.
