What do you get if you cross the Post-Rock stylings of Super Numeri with the techno-pop explosion of Ladytron? As strange as this concoction sounds, the end product is the rather pleasing power-disco funk of Pop Levi.
Pop is back. The musically inclined along the breadth of our fair nation are beginning to reclaim popular music from the clutches of the mass-produced, talentless boy/girl groups that have assaulted our charts in recent years. The concisely pitched Mr. Levi has cottoned on to this new wave of Avante Pop and, channelling his magick through Seventies glam, has produced a stomping, feel good hit with Sugar Assault Me Now.
This three minute slice of power-pop aptly lives up to its name. Sugar Assault Me Now is a fuzzy, rhythmic outpouring of wry, camp seductiveness, with hand claps a plenty. Its as if Mika met The Rapture at a Manhattan music hall and plied them with enough alcohol to persuade them to be his backing band. The result is infectious and is sure to be heard at the next dirty underground nightclub you visit.
