The third single from Steps wannabe POP! staggers pretty much along the same road as their two previous chart middlers. Tinny drum beats, twinkling keyboard special effects, lyrics of complete insignificance and screeching female vocals make up these three long minutes of power pop.

Unfortunately for this ambitious group they will never experience the success of Steps if they keep receiving such inconsequential songs to sing. And even if they did, it is questionable as to whether they really have the charisma to pull it off.

Serious is not a ballad, nor does its tempo warrant a handbag on the dance floor. It amounts to middle of the road dance/pop drivel which, because it sounds exactly the same as its predecessors, will not chart as high. It's a shame though, for if a dance-based pop group good enough to satisfy the needs of cheesy disco teens were to be found, perhaps the chart would be encouraged to leave house-based tracks alone.
