Sometimes you can get too indie, you know. So much so that you put yourself in danger of disappearing into your own chalet at All Tomorrow's Parties, drawing the curtains and shutting out the world.

Whether Popular Workshop have quite reached that stage is still up for debate. In the blue corner, we present to the jury, m'lud, that they have penned a love song to their fellow London art-rockers and bill-sharers William that is guaranteed to catch the eye of music hacks as its title suggests that it might be a cover/reworking/homage of a Smiths song (it's not, in case you were wondering).

In the red corner we have new wave-via-Rhythm Factory guitars and spiky lyrics that would be worth listening to no matter what clever references they were trading off. Imagine Lloyd Cole backed by The Strokes playing Britpop karaoke. Fun, challenging and eminently listenable, they're definitely worth keeping an eye on.
