Who can really hate The Presidents Of The United States Of America? They have one of the longest band names in rock history and they play the goofiest songs with the fewest amount of strings - 3 guys, 5 strings indeed.
So The Presidents have reunited to reclaim their spot next to Ben Folds in the realm of cheeky pop rock humour. But, in a very disappointing way, Mixed Up SOB takes a step back from their punchy hits from the mid-'90s.
Their sound is very clean on the track, with guitars strumming power chords throw a simple song arrangement. This used to work with strange songs like Peaches and Lump, but here all the weirdness of the song structures are gone - we're left with a simple, vanilla flavoured pop punk song.
But at least The Presidents' humor hasn't left their lyrics, right? Well, sort of. Mixed Up SOB features a few goofy lines like "She's stuck in gear, it's just too bad it's reverse", but overall the song contains a set of hazy, generalised statements that don't really demand interpretations. Not to mention the most annoying use of the phrase "son of a bitch" in a song since Nazareth's Hair Of The Dog.
