Have Prinzhorn Dance School decided to ditch their Fall meets ESG minimalism for Polyphonic Spree styled symphonies on their third single? In a word, no.
Instead, it's business as usual with Tobin and Suzi: bass, drums, guitar, vocal(isation)s, all wrapped in clinical beat precision. Their Orwellian groove machine towers over their DFA label-mates like some freaky black monolith: while most of DFA's bands command you to dance, Prinzhorn order you to sit down and listen.
Crackerjack Docker makes for extremely uneasy listening: how can something so, well, scary manage to be so, well, catchy? But be warned: the bass riff will be rattling around in your head like a can of dried peas for weeks, you'll be mouthing non-sequiturs like "5 o'clock shocker? Crackerjack Docker!" unendingly, and yet you'll still return for 'just one more play'. On the strength of Crackerjack Docker, Prinzhorn Dance School's debut album is looking more and more doubleplus good every day.
