Protocol appear to be grabbing on to the coat tails of the eighties dance/pop revival that continues to spew out a series of bands dead set of sounding exactly like a mutant hybrid of all the best music of the era. Where's the pleasure's verse riff sounds like a slightly out-of-sync Atomic by Blondie, while the chorus turns out to be something Duran Duran would have unleashed if they were struggling to come up with the next big hit.

In fact, Protocol sound pretty much like The Bravery, which is a warning considering the hype-backlash-near-hate that happened roughly this time last year with them.

They aren't offensive; they just aren't very good either. With the raft of decent new bands sprouting up this year through the Internet, the bar is pretty high when it comes to exciting new music. Let's hope Protocol have something more up their synth-pop sleeves, or they might find themselves grounded before they've even got going.
