Pull In Emergency are the latest band spewed up from the creative recesses of London's skinny jean laden, trendy haircut smitten, sunglasses-at-night time corners - this their debut (double A-side) single, Follow / Why Aren't You Dancing.
Follow sounds like The Strokes and Kings Of Leon going London sightseeing with Feist. This tale of trying to follow the Arcadian dream is thick with drawling guitars uttering luscious, chiming melodies over Faith Barker's attractive, pop-noir vocals. Follow has instant appeal, and is charming in its self-assuredness and to-the-point ability to not outstay its welcome.
The apparent self-ingratiation of Why Aren't You Dancing is a little disappointing, however, the vocal duty handed to the bass player Dylan Holmes. While the lyrics "Why aren't you dancing? / Get to the back you're not even smiling" are a (just about) endearing tongue-in-cheek take on moody gig-goers, the lyrics "We only wanted to be in your magazine / We can't help it, we're just so scene / We're in the toilets checking our hair / Who's on the stage? We don't care" are pathetic and perhaps say more about this band than any review.
Why aren't I dancing? Coz yer song's shit, mate! Follow, however, is a glorious listen.
