Since their first ever live appearance at Manchester's In The City festival two years ago, Pure Reason Revolution's stock has been slowly rising. This, their first single since the release of mini-album The Bright Ambassadors Of Morning, serves as the test to determine whether Pure Reason Revolution should be regarded as a flash in the pan, or a slow-burning sensation.

The new prog? Post-rock? PRR enjoy a variety of labels that fail to encapsulate them and this single is no exception: Crunching guitar and machine-gun drums add up to an incredibly dense sound that simply defies categorisation. Tension builds and is then broken like a thunderstorm, the male/female layered vocals bringing forth darkly intriguing lyrics: "Behind the faces and lies / The sharpened knives are disguised / I'm veering closer to you / Desire, obsession and truth."

There is no doubt that PRR are unlikely to attract a great deal of mainstream support with this approach, but, all the same, critics and enthusiasts the world over will rub their hands together with glee on hearing this manifesto. This could be the start of something very special: Vive! Pure Reason Revolution!
