The Rascals are a Merseyside trio with big ambitions. Suspicious Wit is an intense, brooding piece of pop songwriting. The sound is big, bigger than most three-pieces, and powerful, and is sure to capture an interest. But it's just short of the mark.

The spiteful vocal delivery of Miles Kane is engaging, and sounds like a combo of I Am Kloot's John Bramwell and an angrier version The Coral's James Skelly. The chorus, musically, is not dissimilar to something Kaiser Chiefs might pen but lacks the energy of the verse.

Suspicious Wit is a good, very listenable indie pop song. It's testament to The Rascals' potential that it leaves me ultimately disappointed, falling just short of something very good indeed. The potential, however, is unquestionably present in The Rascals pop-noir and rambunctious guitar sounds. Definitely a band to keep a firm eye on.
