These youngsters eh? - The View? Arctic Monkeys? - They don't know they're born! Back in my day guitar bands did more than muck about and sing about the perils of catching the last bus home. Here, hold on... what's this?

Ray feel like a time capsule left buried underneath the stage of an Echo and The Bunnymen gig. This track echoes a bygone age of college rock, grown up indie and songwriting from a mature point of view. Great Strange Dream is a playlist friendly anthem backed up by not one, but two quality B-sides (B-sides! remember them?!) This epic British indie pop might not be to all tastes, but it takes all sorts to make a world and this will please those who may feel alienated by the young whipper-snappers of the current scene. So if you feel more 6Music at heart than Xfm then you'll certainly be interested by this serving of quintessentially English misery orientated rock.

The only shame about Ray is that their retro sound might eventually hold the band back from competing with the current music scene. A new album beckons in July so maybe it's time to re-convene the jury then. In the meantime this provides a better, and safer, trip back in time than a TARDIS.
