I've just resurfaced after dramatically delving with Johnny Borrell
into his latest single. And I have to say I didn't wish I was
'somewhere else', for I rather liked it. In fact loved it.
Borrel's raspy vocals and impassioned singing always remind me of an
over-zealous busker - though here he's accompanied by slick production: a slow-burning string section, pummeling pianos and samples of
crowd chants. I speak of Johnny rather than the band as
musically they've only ever wallowed in the golden frontman's shadow.
The domineering guitar strums are acoustic and, however animated
and bold, take the spiky edge off Razorlight. However, it's not breezy like their other
acoustic-laden single Golden
Touch - rather, it cresendoes with all the intense gravitas and
rousing passion of high drama. Dive in folks.
