The sprit of a certain Mr Cobain is alive and well in the satellite towns of the UK. Every day I seem to see teenage kids in Nirvana hoodies sulking outside Iceland. I am sure some of them weren't even born when Kurt placed that shotgun in his mouth.

Kent based band Reculver on the other hand look as if they are old enough to have caught the Nirvana whirlwind when it last blew through these shores. That they have been listening to Nevermind is crudely apparent. The opening riff of Wake Up Call, all chopped chords and thumping drums, is a blatant and stupid lift from Smells Like Teen Spirit.

The problem is that although Reculver may have been able to copy the quiet/loud dynamic from Nirvana they have none of the songwriting skill. This is closer to the dreadful leaden rock of Nickelback or, even worse, the one hit wonders that were Stiltskin. It's as close to the true sprit of Nirvana as Victoria Beckham is to The Beatles. Only a TV advert could save them from their day jobs.
