There's always a frisson of excitement whenever
Andy Weatherall's name is attached to a
recording project, and Soma have recognized that by
giving his remix of Repeat/Repeat top billing on this
single release.
He doesn't disappoint, with an atmospheric working
that gathers power if not volume as it progresses,
increasingly acidic lines coming to the fore over a
solid breaks track that harks back to early house. Not
flashy by any means, but bound to drop well in the
middle of one of his DJ sets.
The original is markedly different, widescreen and
airborne as it drifts into the consciousness, but
finding some pretty solid legs on the dancefloor as
its warm bassline and smooth beat take over. An
extremely fine double of quality electronic music, and
a no-brainer for those who like their techno deep,
dark and a little dirty.
