The Research may come from Wakefield, but don't expect chirpy indie guitar anthems that fellow West Yorkshire bands Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs may produce. Lonely Hearts Beat The Same is smooth, sad electro-pop that's likely to appeal to any singletons not feeling particularly loved up on Valentine's Day.

Bassist Georgia Lashbrook takes over vocal duties and is suitably downbeat while delivering some typically wry lyrics: "I saw you with a girl, she was pretty as well, you looked happy as hell". The synth sounds should sound dated by now, given that's there's been somewhat of a glut of electro-pop singles recently, but it perfectly suits the sentiments of the song.

Just ahead of their debut album Breaking Up, this is the song that should see The Research safely ensconced in the charts along with the rest of the rather dubiously named 'New Yorkshire' contigent.
