With a song named after an '80s American horror movie icon, you can be forgiven for assuming Reuben are some sort of cheesy goth metal band. In actual fact they sound more like American rock of the early '90s, think Alice In Chains and Faith No more and you'll be heading in the right direction; and yes Reuben do sound that good.
Freddy Krueger is the second single from the Surrey high school chums debut album, the weirdly titled Racecar Is Racecar Backwards. It is pure adrenaline charged rock that is instantly likeable with its excellent melody, thunderous riffing, pulsating drums and energetic vocals. And there are two high quality b-sides to further wet your appetite: the mellow but finely crafted Once, and Glitterskin, a top class Deep Purple-inspired track.
Hopefully, this single will be successful enough to pull Reuben up from the murky and unpredictable depths of the underground and throw them into the hands of the unassuming public to proclaim them Britain's most promising band.
