If you've spent the last year moping around for the next Belle and Sebastian-alikes to emerge or waiting patiently and politely for the next Ella Guru album (which is where, please, Mr Yates?), the gentle, ethereal chamber pop of Revere might just fill the gap.

There's nothing wrong with substituting guitars and synthesisers for orchestral strings and brass, and while Revere's attempts sometimes sound clumsy - they're not an ensemble that believes the maxim less is more - they're by equal measure interesting, on occasion sounding like the Rachel's might have done when they were still learning their craft and if they employed Brett Anderson as their lead singer -although it's actually Stephen Ellis, with a falsetto reach Jake Shears might envy.

The eight-piece band's previous EP Chloroform proved to be something of a favourite with Mojo and while the music they're making isn't the most commercial you're likely to hear all year, it's certainly different. If they can only tighten it up a little, there's no reason why it shouldn't appeal to an ever widening audience.
