Run For Me is the first single from recent album Lowedges, by that master of the laid-back growl Richard Hawley. A lovely, understated song about a father / son relationship and the passing of the baton, literally and metaphorically, it's an uplifting swirl of lush music. Characteristic country-style guitars are overlaid by some gorgeous strings and the irresistible chorus is reminiscent of that old classic, City of New Orleans.
Come to think about it, I don't know why I didn't spot the similarity of Hawley's deep, deep voice with Kris Kristofferson long ago (don't tell me he didn't record that, he must have done). Perhaps the comparisons to all those other great crooners put me off the scent.
Other tracks are the little-known Troublesome Water, originally recorded by Howard Seratt in the '50s, "a very gentle sort of rural white mountain gospel" and Aran Loop, an instrumental for Hawaian lap steel. Anything from Hawley is well worth the price and this is no exception...
