The debut single of this singer, pianist and guitarist from the other side of the Atlantic, this multi-layered track is taken from his forthcoming double-album, and you're going to be hearing a lot more of both over the coming months.
In an age where electronica and identikit guitar bands seem to be battling it out for world supremacy, it's nice to hear something that revels in being out and out acoustic. It's beautifully written and performed track, that's so chilled it's bordering on spaced-out. In addition to which, it's also got a definite echo of early 70s Lennon & McCartney to it.
Whilst being hotly tipped as one the of the big things for the coming year has been known to be a poisoned chalice, and being showered with praise by Radio 2's Mark Lamarr will not do any favours in some circles, this song definitely stands on its own merits. Although he seems to fall into a category with James Blunt and Paolo Nutini, this guy has the potential to leave them both floundering in his wake.
