The spirit of DIY lives on with punk-pop Coventry
trio whose logo has ignored the invention of desk top
publishing and whose guitars make you want to get up
and dance.
The Ripps are the kind of band to put a smile on
your face on even a cold and miserable December
morning because you know that a few minutes in front
of any stage they're bouncing up and down on will warm
your heart and tickle your ears. They yelp like The
Libertines, draw out their lines like John
Lydon and fill the room with enegy.
While Vandals has its moments, though, it's
actually B-side Hypocrites that's the star of the
package, drawling "You're a hypocrite, you're a
hypocrite" over and over again in the way that "anger
is an energy" must be true if you say it enough times.
As if that's not enough already, their frontman's
called Patch Lagunas. How punk is that! Can I adopt
them, please?
