Poor Robbie. The lyrics of Come Undone prove that his emotional problems were far from over at the time of recording, and that he still believes that putting his issues on display for all to see will somehow help resolve them. It won't of course, though it will help to sell records.
One insecurity Robbie shouldn't have however is whether or not this single will be a hit - Come Undone will easily surpass the success of his previous release Feel. The verse of this new single grabs interest from the start with a catchy and quiet high-sung part, which explodes into a coarser and ironically celebratory chorus about the self-destructive behaviour of an addict.
But for all this catchiness and excitement, it has to be said that overall this single starts to feel like more of the same. The Chambers and Williams approach is now beginning to wear a little thin. No amount of vocal skill, lyrical flair, or singability can cover that up. This really needs to be the end of line for Classic Robbie. Something new is now required to ensure the Williams' brand itself does not Come Undone.
