You have to hand it to Robyn, she knows how to build atmosphere. In Be Mine, the third single from her self-titled album, the cello and violins simultaneously stab and sway above the electronic drums that throb under her delicate voice.
She's not an ostentatious singer but she communicates enough hurt and vulnerability in her delivery to convince us of the song's story of heartbreak. She gives us very clear, empathetic images: "she had on that scarf I gave you and you got down to tie her laces".
Of course, as usual, the offering is ripe for remixing and will no doubt play in clubs nationwide to the delight of shape-cutters everywhere. It isn't as successfully lyrically or melodically as previous singles but it is still a fun and sumptuous offering and deserves to hit the charts.
