Many fans were shocked at the start of this year when Rosay Pipette announced that she had left Brighton's premier retro-poppers The Pipettes. What on earth was going on?
Rest assured, after a tantalising series of lo-fi demos on her MySpace site Rosay returns in fine form with her debut solo single. The fact that she has chosen to use her birth name indicates a change of direction that is confirmed on Another Version Of Pop Song.
The track bumps along very nicely thanks to a catchy keyboard refrain and a spare but bouncy beat, with Dougall's voice far more prominent than it ever was with The Pipettes. In fact, she sounds uncannily like Beth Orton, which is no bad thing.
