Well, apologies to all those indie purists, but it works just beautifully. Adams' slant on the Gallagher classic is a desolate affair, stripping down the song to the bare bones of a gentle acoustic guitar and atmospheric synths. Rather than a joyous celebration of love, Adams version is a more sorrowful, melancholy affair and he makes the song his own.
Although hardcore Oasis fans will be seething at the very sound, it already comes with Noel Gallagher's seal of approval and is steadily gathering radio play. Will it be a hit? Well if a piano led version of Mad World can be a Christmas number one, you just never know...
