Having released the awesome Sideways a few months ago, Sam Isaac's second big proper release (he's one of those DIY types who record and sell their own stuff, and do tours of people's local pubs and living rooms) is a big, stomping, upbeat number.
It's enthralling in a completely different way from its predecessor. While last time Sam painted a pretty but frank picture of the ups and downs of young love, this time he's banging on about... well... the fire might be a metaphor but we're not really sure. From the music and the tone, though, it sounds like he's aiming for the anthemic and uplifting, rather than the reflective and weary-hearted.
With a powerful melody and an Arcade Fire-like sense of community spirit, this should awaken the ears of those who weren't roused by Sideways and alert them to Mr Isaac's amazing knack for simple but awesome proper-pop-with-proper-instruments tunes. And if this song can bring him success, the world better brace itself for when he gets around to releasing Sticker, Star and Tape, which is on another level altogether.
