It seems a long while ago that Santogold was added to the musicOMH.com 'ones to watch' list at the turn of the year, as here she is with her first single, coming round again with a proper billing from Atlantic this time.
Shot through with attitude, hers is a distinctive voice, with a piercing, nasal delivery that sounds like a harsher update of Blondie. When she sings "I don't need no-one else", you believe her and watch from a distance as the loping bass and handclaps get to work.
L.E.S. Artistes is a track of immediate singalong potential, and if her multi-genre album contains music this good throughout, then Brooklyn's Santi White could really be on to something.
