Sebastien Tellier - La Ritournelle (Lucky Numbers)
UK release date: 26 September 2005
I can't find a better comparison for Sebastien Tellier's new single, La Ritornelle so I'll just crib what the press release says: "Basically it's Unfinished Sympathy Part II". The first person to be signed to Air's own record label, Tellier has been making musical waves in his Parisian arrondisement for years and this track, taken from the album Politics fuses the best bits of Massive Attack with Air's somnolent style.
Regardless of easily made comparisons, La Ritornelle, which features the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra, is a musical masterpiece - as dreamy as it is complex and as uplifting as it is poignant. The track starts with a glorious tinkling intro that explodes into a miasma of sound which drifts skywards to create a heady spine-tingling track. Released into the world at the end of this month La Ritornelle comes packaged with a lot of new remixes but in its pure state it is by far one of the most wistful, stirring and blissful songs you will hear all autumn.
Tellier himself recommends that all his music is listened to in the dark and by candlelight, which makes this song both something to chill to and something to remind you of your lover
