The Secret Handshake is revealed to be the work of Luis Dubuc, who, with a diverse background of Dallas, Toronto and Venezuela, might be expected to make more adventurous music than he does here.
Instead, the use of a vocoder coupled with the over-use of fretboards and wobbly synths make for a track that, while admittedly energetic, sounds like a single picked from the Daft Punk studio floor and stuck through the blender.
As the central vocal pleads "this is an emergency", there is admittedly a frisson of occasion, but it doesn't last quite long enough before the music blunders itself to a standstill, fretwork used up and nowhere to go. Bold, but ultimately lacking.
