Good grief, it's like shoegazing never left us: do ethereal, dreamy
vocals sunk down behind a wall of squalling guitars sound familiar?
("YES!" - a bunch of thirty-somethings). Well, Norwegian four-piece Serena-Maneesh are doing it all again - right here, right now.
It's been some fifteen years since grunge blew the likes of
Lush and Chapterhouse out of the water (Britpop arriving
a year or so later to bang the final nails in the coffin). Since its
brief early nineties heyday, shoegazing has been the least fashionable
and most derided musical form since the demise of prog.
But it looks like the tide may be turning. For even though this song
could easily have been the product of Slowdive circa 1991
duetting with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club circa 2001, it still
demands to be heard again and again, each time with the volume knob
notched up a little higher. And your head firmly bowed, of course.
